WE'RE ELECTRIC! (ROAD REPORT)
August 22, 2008
Holy son of a billygoat! We're back from Detroit and this shit is hot! 3 songs recorded with Jim Diamond - and lemme tell you, that feller knows how to bring it.
Thursday - RoadKat and I picked up the rental van, picked up Brad in GC, picked up Stotts in Greenville. 8 hours or so later we landed in Detroit. Crashed at the sweet $50/night Holiday Inn Express.
Friday - Got up, visited Motown (sweet!), got to the studio at noon. Met Mr. Diamond (sweet!), loaded in, set up, did a bit of sound check and started blasting through the tunes. Early evening we popped across the street to Bucharest Grill for some yummy Romanian shwarma sandwiches. Got back to the studio by 9 or so to hear Jim's finished mixes (sweet!). Headed back to the hotel. Got real loaded in the hotel bar and took over the jukebox. RoadKat flirted with everyone there and got us free drink and more plays on the box.
Saturday - Rolled out kind of early, finally made it out of Detroit. Jim was real sick from the previous night's partying. Mr. Pukey Puke. Kat, Brad, and I enjoyed some donuts. 8 or so hours later we landed back in Greenville to pick up the PA for our show in Carbondale. Rolled into Carbondale, set up our stuff, got some food. Kat and I grabbed some Don Taco while Brad, Jim and Rachel got some El Greco. Another great night of ridiculous rock n' roll action at PK's. Always fun playing with those Ded Buggers. Had a mini listening party in the parking lot for our new record. I sez it before and I'll sez it again: Carbondale rules!
Wait 'til you here these tracks! Soon, soon. Find us a label and it'll be even sooner.

WE'RE HEADING TO DETROIT TO RECORD A 7" WITH JIM DIAMOND
August 11, 2008
As reported by our pal, Annie Zaleski, over at AtoZ, we just got confirmation that LEFT ARM will be heading to Detroit Rock City on August 15th to record the 7" follow-up to Dissatisoul with the legendary Jim Diamond at his Ghetto Recorders studio. In the unlikely event the name doesn't ring a bell, you're no doubt familiar with his work. Mr. Diamond's been at the helm for excellent albums by the likes of the Paybacks, Gore Gore Girls, Dirtbombs, White Stripes, Sights, Mystery Girls, Soledad Brothers, Mooney Suzuki, New Bomb Turks, Von Bondies, Mistreaters, Bantam Rooster, etc. Needless to say we're ecstatic. Look for the results of that session soon enough.
While we know for sure that the A side will be "Electric Babies", the B side will either be "Loser's Recipe" (both songs have been around for a little while now) or "Go Home" (a newer tune) or both...depending on track length.
I aim to take a bunch of pictures and video, so hopefully I'll get some of that posted here when we return.
Wish us luck!

LA IN KDHX's LOCAL ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
November 3, 2007
Exciting news! LEFT ARM will be the artist featured on the "Local Artist Spotlight" on 88.1 FM KDHX in St. Louis. The spots will run twice/day for the two weeks between Oct. 29 and Nov. 11. I went in to record the interview portion of the segment last night. Here's to hoping I don't make myself or the band come of like total dorks! Big ups to Matt Brinkmann for everything.
Listen to the spot HERE.
Also, the CD is in production as we speak...er, write...er, read. So, they'll be here and ready for the CD release party November 10th at the Stagger Inn. Yay!
WE'VE BEEN BLOWN!
October 19, 2007
News bits!
A.) We had an amazing show and an amazing time at the first ever Show-Me Blowout fest at Off Broadway. Thanks to everyone for coming out and dancin yer asses off and to Kopper and Bill Streeter for putting on an excellent weekend.
B.) Our new CD, "Dissatisoul" (cover shown above) is off being mastered and it sounds killer! 12 tracks of hot fuzz. It is my/our aim to have that baby back in our hands (and then in your hands) for the November 10th show at The Stagger Inn. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
C.) Now we look forward to an amazing show Halloween night with the lovely and talented, Gore Gore Girls.
LEFT ARM VIDEO ON LOFISTL.COM!
June 21, 2007
If you haven't heard of Bill Streeter and his video blog (vlog) at www.lofistl.com you either a.) don't own a computer b.) don't love St. Louis music and culture or c.) don't like kick-ass new technologies. Because the stuff that Bill's doing is amazing! Not only does he constantly scratch the underbelly of all things St. Louis as a talented videographer, he travels the country participating in panels, leading discussion groups, and giving lectures on hip, new and emerging methods of online communication.
Well, Bill was out - video camera in hand - for the Gore Gore Girls / Left Arm show back on May 1st at Atomic Cowboy and he just posted the spot on us (Left Arm that is.)
Check it out! A video of Left Arm in LO-FI SAINT LOUIS!
TURD IS STILL THE NEW LUNCH
May 27, 2007
So many little updates to the site my brain hurts. I would narrow it down to one section, but I think I added something to everything. New pictures, new video, new shows, updated bio. PLUS, we've started a LEFT ARM Blog! Dunno, it just seemed like something fun to do. That way more people can actually contribute stuff. I think we'll be posting new demos and other wacky items. Sign in and give it a whirl. Maybe subscribe or something. I have no idea how that works, so don't ask me.
PLUS PLUS, I've updated the sounds page! Put up the songs we recorded last year with Scott and a whole bunch of other old demos and live crap that I totally forgot about. We don't play but about 10% of any of that live anymore, but it's a fun listen. Click around so I don't feel like I'm wasting my life away. Thanks.
PLAYBACK REVIEW
MAY 4, 2007
After almost 5 years as a band, it was bound to happen sooner or later: someone wrote about us! Amy Burger from PlaybackSTL wrote a nice little piece about the GORE GORE GIRLS / LEFT ARM show. Check it out here. The abridged stuff about us:
"...Now, the Girls don't get all the credit for the audience's excited state-they were, as Amy Gore put it onstage, "well lubricated" by the suitably-matched opening act, St. Louis-based Left Arm, who half-jokingly refer to their style as "tardcore."
For a three-piece band to really work well, all the links in the chain have to be strong, and that is definitely the case with the members of this band: bassist Jim Stotts, drummer Jason Potter and guitarist Joe Stumble (all three share vocal duties). A tightly knit, well-oiled machine, they keep the vibe lighthearted and fun while cranking out some serious, loud-ass garage punk rock 'n' roll.
This may be hard punk rock, but it is highly accessible and very danceable. And as the boys in Left Arm sing in one of their biggest crowd-pleasers, "When Jason says to dance, you better dance!" And we did.
The best thing about Left Arm, besides their first-rate musicianship, is that these guys never take themselves too seriously. While completely dedicated to their art and keeping the Left Arm tradition going, they're not pretentious, but rather more tongue-in-cheek about anything approaching self-importance. Mostly, they just rock." - Amy Burger
STUMBLE BEE
April 29, 2007
Hey, thanks to everyone who came out and tore it up with us at the Schlafly Tap Room Friday night! It was Mr. Stumble's first show with us and not only did he kick ass, he has decided that being in LEFT ARM is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to him in his entire life (slight paraphrasing here). But we're happy to have him and we're happy you all gave us as good a show as we gave you (though, let's admit we were slightly better, cuz without us you would have just been a big group a crazy dancing drunk people). See ya Tuesday night at Atomic Cowboy.
TURD IS THE NEW LUNCH
April 11, 2007
Oy! It's spring and much is happening in camp LEFT ARM. For starters, we are elated to announce the addition of our new axegrinder, Joe Stumble! Mr. Stumble is from St. Louie originally, then moved around the country a bit (including stints in Boston and Denver), and is now back home and kicking ass with us. He has a really cool blog called Last Days Of Man On Earth. Check it out.
He's getting right up to speed with the golden oldies, plus he's adding some killer elements to our new songs. Which brings me to new songs: our winter hibernation has been more than fruitful. Jim and got together a whole bunch this winter and wrote about a half-dozen new songs. So, expect to see/hear a lot of new stuff at our upcoming shows. Which brings me to shows: now that we're fully recovered from all the shit that was weighing us down, we're finally ready to rock n' roll like our momma's always knew we could. Check out all the new shows posted - including one with Detroit's own GORE GORE GIRLS! Yes!! Also, we're looking to do some recording this summer and maybe have our new album out by the end of the year. Killer, eh? No kidding. PLUS, new shirts are in the works. More on that soon.
Oh, and if you're saying to yourself, "What happened to Brad?!" That's a good question. The answer I suppose is that dearest Brad Attitude has much going on right now with life and school. Too much to be wasting his life away hanging out with losers like us haha. But in all seriousness, we love Brad and hope that one day he can rejoin us as Rock N' Roll Band Supreme.
YOU FORGOT ABOUT LOVE
January 23, 2007
Hey everyone. Happy new year to ya. Thought I'd drop a news update. We're currently experiencing our yearly winter hibernation, so you won't see or hear from us much in the immediate future. We're busy writing new songs and perfecting the art of looking cool. Also, we're looking for a new/additional kick-ass guitar player, so if you know anyone (or are one yourself) send them our way.
Sooo sorry we had to cancel our shows in December. Between the shitty weather and everything else it just wasn't happening.
WE NEVER SAID WE WERE ROLE MODELS
September 7, 2006
Just a quick update. Thanks to all our friends, families, and pals for coming out the other night to see us play with The Four Slicks. Those guys were awesome and fun as hell to talk to. It was our first time playing at Off Broadway. Seems like it holds plenty of promise for future coolness. Especially given the recent death of our beloved Hi-Pointe. Rest in peace old friend.
We've been playing a few new songs that we're pretty excited about. There's more in the works, so be on the look for that. LA three piece is really working out well. See ya soon.
I GET SO LOST IN IT
July 10, 2006
Eh, okay. Forever between news updates. Let's see, what's going on? We're up to no good as always. So, back a few months ago we went into the studio with Jason Hutto, right? Five songs were produced. Well, being the lazy dumbasses we are...well I am that is...it's taking forever to get the final mixes off to the mastering place. I think we're close. Hell, it's not rocket science - it's just rock n' roll after all. Oh well, I'm trying, ok?
We have a show scheduled for August 31st with this great band from Paris called the Four Slicks at Off Broadway in St. Louis. This may also be a good time to mention that our flyin' V wielding caveanimal of a guitar player, Scott Walus, will no longer be playing with us. He's decided that driving 5+ hours round-trip every time we gather is just too much. Fuck him anyways haha. Just kiddin'. We've enjoyed the 5 months that he did play with us. He got us though some tough times, but now it's onward once again. We'll be laying low on shows as we regroup and regather. Write some new songs as a three piece, drink more beer, get fatter, etc.
Hopefully we'll be releasing our little CD/EP at the August show and we'll be back in the full swing of things by the fall.
So, that's what's up.
FORGET THE MASSIVE HAND INJURY, LET'S ROCK
March 19, 2006
Exciting news to report! We went into the studio this past weekend with Jason Hutto (ex-Phonocaptors, etc.) and recorded a bunch of new stuff. Everyone worked their asses off and 5 complete tracks were finished: Gonna Get You, Forget The Rock Let's Roll, Love Blast, Damn The Peanut Man, and As Seen On TV. Everything sounds amazing! We're so excited. Especially given Scott's performance with his mangled hand. What? Oops, I forgot to mention that here. Last week, Scott had an unfortunate accident in is apartment involving flaming cooking oil. He burned the crap out of his hand and foot. He's okay and as he describes, is "very lucky it burned the outside of my right hand." I guess that's the part least essential for guitar playing. He wrapped that sucker up soldiered on. Jason Hutto did a great job! Now onto mixing, etc. A couple new shows added.
YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOSE SOME
February 5, 2006
Good news first: new show booked. But, not just any show my friends, LEFT ARM will be opening for THE RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS Feb. 26th at the Creep Crawl in St. Louis!!! Oh man, we're so excited. So now that you're feeling all good from that, you may handle this a little better: singer/guitar player, Jeff White, has decided to leave Left Arm. This really really sucks and we're sorry to see him go, but we sincerely wish him luck with everything he does in the future. Now let me try and end on a high note: replacing Jeff will be the talented and beautiful Scott Walus. You may know Scott from the late great The Locked Sound. Expect some of the same, but also some new and exciting things from us as we enter this next chapter of rock n' roll history. You can witness Scott in action with us for the first time on the 26th. Come out and welcome Scott into the fold (read: buy him shots and pinch his butt). I added some more video in the videos section so check that out too.
